3 Activities for a 1 Year Old

I don't know about you guys but Lil man and I are tired of this apartment. Alright Rona, its time for you to get evicted lol. I will say as much as I would like to see what the future holds, I can't lie and say I'm loving seeing my baby boy grow right before my eyes. Like literally, he's growing by the minute. But while we're here I had to come up with a few ideas to entertain, develop, and teach my little one during this time. These are 3 activities I tried for my 1-year-old. All these items were brought from the Dollar Tree I might add.

1. Ice Painting

  • Location: Outdoors
  • Time frame: 35 minutes
  • Items: ice cubes, bowl, brushes, paint, add a painting apron if you'll like.

This activity was fun for us both but please make sure you monitor them because if your baby is under 1, He will try and eat the paint.

2. Playdoh Magnets and Sticks

  • Location: In or outdoors
  • Time frame: 25 to 30 minutes max
  • Items: Playdoh of choice, ABC magnets, and popsicle sticks

Lil man liked this during his 1 hour TV time and it kept him occupied

3. Magnet Fun

  • Location: Inside
  • Time Frame: 1-hour max
  • Items: Cookie sheet and magnets

This activity I must say was my son's favorite until he begins to heat the ducks and tried clamping his finger.

All these activities help with your child's motor and developmental skills. They're simple to do, fun, and the thing is you have the majority of these items in your home. With my baby only being 19 months his short attention span only last for the time frame given, throughout the day I have incorporated a full curriculum for him

Please note: This is not a mandate, it's just a plan. Do not be hard on yourself or your kid. I know my baby is continually going through a growth spur. Some days he loves activities and other days he doesn't want to play. So test these out, let me know if you've tried them out and whats your favorite activity. More activity to come.

Mother's Day Post

Hey Sis!

Happy Mother's Day! I would have never painted my life to be where it is today but I am here and I am grateful. Being a single mother was something I didn’t sign up for. I saw my life with a husband + child living as a family.  But my life was shifted in a positive way and I am in one of the most liberating moments I've ever been in my life.

It is not an easy road but by the grace of God, I am doing what I need to and making it. Want to know how I've gotten by? See 3 tips that help motherhood go smoothly for me.

3 Motherhood Tips

1. Ask God for help every time.

Throughout this journey, it has been a hard but a great process for me as a single mother asking God for guidance on areas where I’m unclear. Like when my baby cries, I don’t understand something, or when big decisions need to be made. It works every time because once you "trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). You allow God to come in and make things right.

2. Patience

You have to have the patience for the little ones. One thing my therapist told me is that I have to understand perspective. See for me, I see things from a motherly protective perspective and my son sees things from a explore curious perspective. It blows my mind to understand that concept because I would literally police everything my son would do out of worry that he will hurt himself. Once I let that go and started worrying less, God came in and show me ways to really embark patience.

3. Take deep breaths

This is important on so many levels that I can have a whole post about this. Taking deep breaths can bring you back to a state of peace, calmness, and understanding. When things aren't going how you want, you to take a deep breath, go back to 2. patience, and then 1. ask God for help. Because when you "Seek first the kingdom of God. All these other things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33).

I just want to say I love you guys, keep pushing, keep striving. From me to you, here is a virtual hug from one mother to another, and a flower from me to you. Happy Mother's Day.

I hope you're encouraged.

5 Stay at Home Ideas

Hey guys, God put it on my heart to share with you some ideas while you stay at home. Be encouraged and know that “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” Isaiah 54. I am praying for the families of all those affected by the virus and praying for a full recovery for each family. Be encouraged.
